Message from the Headteacher

FRIDAY 2 MARCH: The school remains closed today to students and staff.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am sorry that the school continues to be closed today. We are as frustrated about this as you are and are eager to re-open the school. However, travel to school remains problematic. Many of the routes to school are still impassable due to drifting snow and abandoned vehicles as a result of the road conditions.

School transport are not running the school services once again today due to the dangerous road conditions. Impassable roads leading to Debenham and hence access to the school means that we have once again had to close the school.

Once again, I am sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused and hope that the conditions might brighten and warm up, in order for us to be back to business as usual at the start of next week.

Yours sincerely

Miss Julia Upton
Headteacher

SCHOOL WORK DURING CLOSURE FOR GSCE STUDENTS

Year 11

However, we are very conscious that our Year 11 students may well be worrying about the time that they have missed this week. In order that we maintain momentum with their examination preparation I have asked Heads of Department to state clearly work that the students could be doing at home. This might be a continuation of work being undertaken in class, it might be revision of a previously learnt topic, or it might just be a reminder of things that the students have already been asked to prepare or work upon this week. There is something for every subject and the students should use it as a guide to help them self-study at home, following the closure of the school for a third day. If the teacher has referenced a resource that the students should refer to there is a link to take you to that resource in case the student does not have that at home.

Year 10

As you will be aware from the Year 10 Parent’s Evening, Year 10 students have Mock Examinations approaching, starting week commencing 19 March 2018. As explained to you on the Parents’ Evening Students have resources that should allow them to revise for these, hence using their time effectively at home.

YEAR 11 WORK

The following resources have been set by the subject teachers. The links, if used from the home page of the school web site should take you to the resources. Alternatively, they have all been saved (in pdf or original version) in Student Shared/Year 11 Snow Closure work.

English

Continue learning the quotes for Romeo & Juliet.  Your teacher may have given you some but otherwise learn the ones on the resource.

Create revision mind maps following this plan for the following characters:

  • Lord Capulet
  • Lady Capulet
  • The Nurse
  • The Friar

(start of plan on the resource)

If you want to do more and if you bought a revision guide and workbook, you can do some activities from those.  Otherwise you can look at the resources on the Student Shared area.

Mathematics

Students will know if they are taking Higher or a Foundation Tier. They should continue with their own revision but there is also a sample exam paper that they can complete. This is the third paper that went with the two papers that they took for their Year 11 mock examination.

Click here for the Foundation resource.

Click here for the Higher resource.

Science

Year 11 have all had tasks set on www.pearsonactivelearn.com.

There are Biology, Chemistry and Physics tasks and will form part of ongoing revision throughout the rest of the term. There are 9 tasks so far (Thursday at 3.00pm) and more will be added on Friday morning.

If students can't remember their log on, it is in the student shared area in a file called 'Activelearn Student.' The school network drives can be accessed by any student from home. Go to the website and then Home Access Plus.

Business Studies

Revision for Unit 3: Building a Business. 3.3 Effective Financial Management and 3.4 Effective People Management.

In addition to your exercise books, please use the revision PowerPoint available on the student shared area.  To access this, visit student shared, Business Studies, REVISION SESSIONS, Unit 3 Revision Sessions and then read and learn slides 87 - 148.

Monday / Tuesday group

What a perfect opportunity for you to get on with your post it notes! Try finishing as many as possible with the resources you have available. This will increase your grade.
