Year 7 Introductory Evening

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to let you know that the Year 7 settling in evening for parents is now available online, there is a video by Mrs Jude (Head of Year 7) and the form tutors, these videos are separate so you only need to watch the form group that your child is in.

It has been a very unusual start to High School life for Year 7 and they probably feel that they have just joined a Year 7 school in the way they are taught and their access to the whole school. We are very keen to remove these restrictions as soon as possible but obviously we will need to wait for further guidance from the Department of Education.

As discussed in previous communications we have had to make other arrangements which mean life at school is perhaps a little less comfortable for students than such as, needing to make sure that windows and doors are open to allow for sufficient ventilation and students being outside at break and lunch time. Now the weather has turned more seasonal this obviously means students will be colder than we would normally like. Students are welcome (and encouraged) to wear layers under their uniform to try and keep them as warm as possible as we do need to keep a source of fresh air coming into classrooms and students outside wherever possible.

Helpfully, we are now entering cold and flu season as well, we do not expect students who are suffering from a cold to stay off school, students need only stay at home where they are displaying one of the key symptoms of Covid- 19, which are High Temperature, Persistent new cough or loss of taste or smell.

I want to thank parents for acting responsibly and keeping their children off with these symptoms and I am hopeful that testing will be able to respond a little quicker in the future which in the last few days seems to have been the case.

If your child is off school we are making sure that as much of the lesson as possible is uploaded via Teams, if there are issues around your son/daughter accessing Teams or you do not have facilities at home to allow Teams to be used please do get in touch with the form tutor in the first instance so we can work with you on this, we are also trying to use this for homework where appropriate so it is important that students can access this platform. I have attached two help sheets to this letter to help with using Teams.

Having watched the videos below, if there are any questions which you may have please do get in touch with us at school, the form tutor is always the best place to start as they will know your son or daughter better than anyone else in school, email details can be found on our website under the "Staff" tab.

Best Wishes

Simon Martin
