Peer Mentoring

The Peer Mentor scheme here at Debenham High School is run to support and encourage students in the Lower School, Years 7, 8 and 9.

Students from Year 9 and Year 10 work with Mrs Keeble, Student Support Coordinator, in planning and running events and activities to encourage students to become independent and confident students.

Our Peer Mentors are selected through an interview process in Year 8 and will have active duties until they reach Year 11.  The students receive on-going training throughout their time as Peer Mentors.

What we do around the School

MATCHED MENTORING

Working on a one to one basis to support and encourage throughout the transition in High School.

FORM MENTORING

Working with a Year 7 Form as allocated Mentors once a week to run activities with different themes every term and play games.

SAFE PLACE TO BE CLUB

Mentors man a classroom during lunchtimes for Year 7 students, to play board games, help with homework or to chat and support

YEAR 7 "DROP IN"

Year 7's are invited to "Drop In" during lunchtimes, Monday to Friday, for organised activities that are run by our Peer Mentors.  Acitivities include quizzes, reading, arts and crafts.  Help is also available with homework.

This will be a base where Year 7 students will be able to find a peer mentor every day who they can go to if they need help with finding clubs or just a friendly chat.
