Welcome to Debenham High SchooL

Message from the Headteacher

Monday 20th March 2023

In a disrupted week last week we still managed to squeeze in a number of events in school. We were pleased to be able to welcome our new Year 6 students on Tuesday, the students had a day in school sampling lessons from Science, English and others. Students stayed for lunch and then went back to their schools. We look forward to welcoming them back in July for a further transition day.

The rearranged World Book Day had a wealth of characters represented including The White Rabbit, a number of Manga Characters as well as the SAS! This day also included our rearranged World Book Day Quiz, this was won by Team BDZ from Year 10 with runner up teams from Year 7 and a cross year group team.

A visit from the Young Carers bus on Thursday was very well supported and a large number of our students took the opportunity to visit and find out more information.  A large proportion of our students identify as Young Carers for a variety of reasons and as a school we want to support these students as much as possible both through these one off events as well as regular groups in school.

As ever a host of fixtures were attended by our students in a range of sports with a large number of students attending these events, finished off on Friday afternoon with a Year 7 Rugby Festival.

The Polyglot club focussed on Lithuanian expertly led by one of our Year 10 students and this week is the turn of Languages to run the Year 9 House Challenge.

With warmest wishes

Simon Martin

vISION STATEMENT

Debenham High School aims to nurture excellence and integrity in all members of our community.
Debenham High is a place of learning and personal development for all. We aim to develop students to enable them to take their place in society as happy, successful and resilient people who act with integrity, purpose and love. Students develop a curiosity about the world around them and a desire to learn. All students regardless of background and ability will be exposed to the very best so that they are able to understand and aspire to excellence; they should see this excellence both in school and beyond in the academic and cultural world. We hold that all people are made in the image of God and as such we encourage students to develop a respect for and tolerance of others - regardless of differences of race, disability, sexuality, gender, culture or religion.

As well as learning about other faiths and world views our students develop an understanding of the Christian Faith and act in a way which demonstrates the key attributes of love, joy, peace, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self -control. The whole school community is encouraged to live by Jesus’ teaching to love our neighbour and to “Treat others as you wish to be treated”.

Students will leave Debenham, with excellent academic qualifications, a love and curiosity for knowledge, resilient and ready to succeed in and contribute to an ever changing world, having developed a moral strength, compassion and understanding of others.

Growing together in Character, Wisdom and Compassion
